Self-Calming
As mentioned, the ability to calm down during times of emotional intensity is a tangible and practical EQ skill. Emotional intensity is a physiological state, in which the adrenal and other glands are pumping stress hormones into the body so as to fully activate the system.
It takes time to deactivate this process. The sooner you notice intensity building, the sooner you begin to intervene, and the easier it is to return to a calmer state. The advantage of catching emotion at a lower level of intensity underscores again the importance of self-awareness.
