Foreword
MAGIC MAKERS
As a child of 7 or 8, I was fascinated with monster movies. While other boys signed up for baseball or hockey, I preferred racing home to watch Chiller Theater’s daily horror flick, usually a selection from Universal’s timeless monster series of the ’30s and ’40s. I was captivated with the camera tricks of the day, how the mild-mannered Lon Chaney could transform into a hairy, bloodlusting werewolf right in front of my very eyes. The jaw-dropping first appearance of Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster still gives me goosebumps till this day. I voraciously read the leading horror magazine of the day, Famous Monsters of Filmland, and fantasized about turning into werewolves and ape men.
