In general, Active Server Pages (ASP) allow you to access middle-tier and backend applications and to generate content dynamically. In this regard, ASPs are similar to CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripts typically found on most Web servers including Apache and IIS. More importantly, ASPs allow you to quickly create Web applications using Microsoft’s Internet Information Server (IIS). ASP allows you to easily access powerful server-side components and large databases through ODBC connections.
