17. SUBSTANCE ABUSE
17.1. Introduction
Substance abuse is a serious social problem that confronts the youths of India. This problem arises mainly due to failure to internalize norms and through frustration and habit formation. Drug abuse is more serious than alcoholic abuse. The message from the Narcotics Control Bureau and other agencies is ‘Drug abuse is life abuse’. It is an evident result of the individual’s maladjustment. It is considered as aberrant behaviour.
