The title of this book is deliberately provocative. For far too long, housing has been restricted by a limited range of procurement routes, housing tenures and typologies. From the persistence of old housing models to the unfulfilled reliance on the market, this book is a challenge to housing professionals, a new generation of students interested in public sector projects and those architects and urban designers interested in entering the sector to rethink current norms. It is also a challenge to the status quo. Housing is social and it must be a project in which we all share and stand up for; it is a human right rather than a typical commodity.
