Foreword
The editor, Dr Hossam A. Gabbar, is the founding general chair of the annual IEEE Smart Energy Grid Engineering Conference. He launched this conference to meet the increasing demands to help the public and industry to understand the foundations of smart energy grids and micro energy grids; and how it can help overcome the limitations and challenges of energy supply and infrastructures, such as high cost, reliability, environmental stresses, and operability factors. There are increasing needs to discuss the foundations of smart energy grid engineering, including design methods, control strategies, and operation and maintenance mechanisms that facilitate the migration from current infrastructures to future smart energy grids.
