Process improvement is the primary role of a small group facilitator, but this role may be combined with other responsibilities. As a facilitator, you could be hired to serve a dual role. If that happens, you need to clarify expectations for your role and communicate to group members when you are serving as a process facilitator and when you are moving into a different role. And, of course, you need to consider whether it is possible for you to function effectively in both roles. The first dual role is one of the easiest to accomplish.
