Facilitation is one of those words that has multiple meanings, all of them valid. People called in to facilitate a group may be expected to lead, train, present new information, make process suggestions, mediate, or perhaps serve in a combination of these roles. The focus of this book is on the group process role, with the realization that people who perform this function may also be expected to fulfill other roles. Group process focuses on the way in which a group goes about accomplishing its purpose. Details regarding that purpose or the actual decisions made by the group are of interest to the facilitator only in relationship to the process or functioning of the group.
