For my academic colleagues and anyone else interested in what we actually did and what data we collected, this appendix shares our journey.
The research for this project spanned six years and went through four phases. My research associate, Jessica Porter, and I studied the Boston Consulting Group, first as ethnographers seeking to understand what people do all day and why (phase 1) and then as action researchers—running field experiments and seeking to create change (phase 2).
