As I finished this book, George Martin, Rachel Levine, and their colleagues at BCG had been working on the PTO initiative for close to four years, and while they had achieved impressive results, there was still much more to do. “Up, down, up-down, down, up-up, down-up, up-up-up-up, down-up, up and done.” That is how George Martin has described the diffusion of PTO at BCG, and for good reason. Spreading the process beyond the Consumer team’s initial success involved effort, patience, and persistence.
