When this was written, I was Chief Design Engineer at Soundcraft Electronics, so mixing console design was my day job, so to speak, and I was doing hi-fi design purely as a spare-time pursuit. Having been responsible for many of the contemporary improvements in mixing console design (such as the padless mic amp and the active panpot), I thought it might be a good plan to publicise these in Electronics World.
