Secure Software Systems Life Cycle

Before we begin with our five Ps though, we first want to introduce the concept of a secure software systems life cycle. And before we can get there, we need to define what we mean by a software system. In the largest sense, we could call a software system any system that depends on software for its operation. Under this definition, that could represent a wide variety of different things: from a small game application that runs on a computer or cellphone, to a toaster that has a software defined controller (whether or not it includes a cloud-based app to tell you the inch-by-inch brownness of your toast’s surface), or a business system that tracks inventory, sales, and customer data.
