Classroom Research

This chapter addresses common practices in classroom-based research. We begin with a description of classroom observation techniques followed by discussion of a range of observation schemes. We then present three commonly used introspective measures followed by a discussion of some of the practical and logistical considerations involved in carrying out research in L2 classrooms.1 Finally, we move on to a description and discussion of methodology in two areas of classroom research: the role of instruction in second language development, and action research.
