PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION

 

 

In the years since 1998, when we wrote the first edition of this book, we have learned several lessons, as authorship in and of itself is an education. As we mentioned in the preface to the second edition, the basic methods of scenic artistry are not very changeable; in fact, many of the methods in use today were first devised centuries ago. What has changed from one edition to another is our perception and understanding of what our readers want and need from a text on this subject.

When we first had the opportunity to publish in 1998, we strove to create a resource for procedures, techniques, and record insights of the sort we wished had been on hand when we first pursued our own training in scenic art. ...
