At this point, we have a good characterization of the e-business, the functions it offers, and the way customers behave, as captured in the business, function, and customer behavior models. The next level in the capacity planning methodology, IT resource planning, deals with the IT resources used to support the e-business. Figure 7.9 shows the main steps involved at this level: IT environment characterization, workload characterization, workload forecasting, performance modeling, calibration and validation, and what-if analysis.
