Some races can be won for as little as a hundred dollars. However, most races require thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. National races require millions and sometimes billions of dollars to run and win. Think of running a campaign as starting a business. You have a plan and you have a message about the “product,” which is you. You need money to work your plan to get voters to learn about you, and to cast their ballots for you so that you can win and do the job.
