Not only does it provide you with tools for easy access, Apple fully expects that you are connected to the Internet and uses this expectation in many ways—OS X automatically tries to connect to the Internet in Sherlock, iDisk, iTunes, QuickTime Player, with Internet Location Files, the Date & Time server, Software Update, a number of icons in the Dock go to the Internet, many Help files get their information from the Internet, and a number of other features depend on the connection.
