Oracle backup and recovery refers to the theory and practice of protecting a real-life Oracle database against data loss and recovering data after a loss. You can lose data either because of a technical problem such as media failure (such as a disk drive breaking down) or because of errors made by the users (such as a wrong update or an overeager sysadmin or DBA deleting the wrong file). Oracle backup is the set of concepts, strategies, and steps to make copies of a database so you can use them to recover from a failure/error situation.
