9Controlling Light
“Don’t just take pictures, make pictures.” That’s the mantra on my photo workshops. The concept: Whenever possible, consider yourself the director of a photo session—using all your talents and tools, just like a movie director uses his or her talents and tools, to create a more interesting photograph with an improved exposure.
In this chapter I will share with you several before-and-after examples of making pictures by controlling available light and by using a speedlite—at home and when travelling. In my illustrations, the before picture is on the left.
