The folks at New Era Colorado in Boulder had a problem. Though their community had voted to migrate to local power with the explicit intent of eventually becoming 100% renewable. The massive coal-powered utility company in the area, which currently monopolized the local power system, had no plans of letting them win so easily. A well-funded smear campaign outspent New Era Colorado’s efforts 2-to-1 and threatened to overturn what had already been voted on.
