It's impossible to create a plan to meet the future needs of the organization without understanding the drivers in the industry. As information technology (IT) continues to move to the center of many strategic initiatives, healthcare IT (HIT) leaders must fully understand all elements of the business and be prepared to bring effective ideas and innovative solutions to the table. We cover these aspects in this chapter to set the stage for the rest of our work.
