Acknowledgments
My mother and father left behind a library of more than 2,200 books. Ruth, my mother, loved fiction and cookbooks, and Charlie, my father, devoured nonfiction books (and wrote two of his own). The appreciation my parents instilled in me for good reading and effective writing was the wellspring of this book.
My wife and daughter fueled my progress in the writing of this book more than they know. Their nonbusiness perspective was always refreshing—and a challenge to be met in the exposition of complex ideas and concepts. They cheerfully celebrated each draft that was half-done, then done, then redone, then done again, and so on, again and again. Susan and Rachel, now this book is really done—and I dedicate it to you.
