Prior to WeWork, I had been surrounded by eager and supportive leaders who encouraged me to push them to focus on aspects of their team or function that they may not be seeing; this was important in achieving the iconic cultures that still exist in those companies today. Without prying open what happened (or didn’t happen) at WeWork and then asking why—why did it implode, why could I not get done what I had been recruited to do—I wouldn’t have focused so heavily on gaps:

   Gaps between culture and strategy

   Gaps between values and behaviors

   Gaps between behaviors ...
