Digital polar transmitter architecture
Abstract
This chapter introduces a polar EDGE transmitter as a realized example of a narrowband RFDAC-based transmitter. Key specifications for the 2.5G EDGE standard are included for convenience in Appendices A and B to highlight the challenges faced by the polar transmitter. Section 2.2 provides an overview of the Texas Instruments Digital RF Processor (DRP) radio incorporating the polar transmitter. Details of phase modulation are presented with overview of a DCO-based ADPLL. Similar details of amplitude modulation are presented along with details of a digital power amplifier (DPA).
