If you’re not presently using QuickBooks Desktop or Sage 50, you can safely skip this chapter. Otherwise, stick around while I walk you through converting your data from QuickBooks Desktop or Sage 50 to QuickBooks Online. You need to carry out these steps for each QuickBooks or Sage company that you wish to migrate. Keep in mind that each set of books that you’ve been keeping on your desktop, typically referred to as a company, will entail a separate QuickBooks Online subscription fee. Accounting software conversions always have some rough edges, so read on to see what to expect when moving your books from your desktop to the cloud.
Knowing the Ins and Outs of Converting Data
When you convert a QuickBooks Desktop company or Sage 50 company to QuickBooks Online, some data fully converts, some partially converts, and some doesn’t convert at all. In addition, QuickBooks Online contains comparable alternatives for most, but not all, QuickBooks Desktop and Sage 50 features.
