Glossary
- Critical Point
A point on a curve where the first derivative is equal to zero.
- Derivative
The slope of a function at a particular point. It is the limit of the change in Y over the change in X as the change in X approaches 0.
- Local Maximum
The highest point in the neighborhood around a point.
- Local Minimum
The lowest point in the neighborhood around a point.
- Point of Inflection
A point on a curve where the first derivative is equal to zero, but the point is neither a maximum nor a minimum.
- Second Derivative
The derivative of the first derivative.
