Public Affairs Specialty Qualification and Accession

PAOs enter into the military communications career field from varied educational backgrounds via a commissioning source. Commissioning sources include Officer Training School, United States Service Academies, or the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Typically, PAOs are commissioned officers and have a four-year college degree. Many have postgraduate degrees, especially mid-grade, and senior officers.
