Although many readers chose this book for an introduction to R, geospatial data science, and machine learning, my goal was to write a book about public-sector decision-making.

The typical methods-driven public policy book is about generating evidence that legislators can use to set budgets. This ‘budgetary' decision-making receives the bulk of attention from academics, journalists, and policymakers - and for good reason.
