Piracy is the common term used in the “counterfeiting” of copyrighted works and has consistently grown through broadband Internet channels to become a worldwide phenomenon. According to a 2011 study of just 10 media brands, there were 43 unique websites that engaged in “digital piracy” with traffic to these sites numbering more than 146 million visits per day.1 The top three digital piracy websites (rapidshare.com, megavideo.com, and megaupload.com) collectively generate more than 21 billion visits per year.2
