The Standard Path

There is absolutely nothing wrong with following conventional wisdom on how to lead project teams. Someone has to be the average team member of a PMO or an acceptable candidate in job interviews. Lots of people travel to an exotic island only to eat at KFC for fear of a bad meal or a night on the crapper from iffy chicken at a local establishment. Play it safe and guarantee yourself a spot in the middle if you fear being in the back of the pack. If project leadership is not a calling or long-term career path for you, I would advise staying on the Standard path until your preferred career path opens up.
