1.5 Project management and the development life cycle
The processes described above represent groups of development activities which have to be performed to complete the project. There is also a need for management checkpoints at which the progress and direction of the project can be formally assessed.
Most projects contain elements of uncertainty which make it difficult to exercise control against precise targets. This uncertainty tends to be greatest at the beginning of the project, when little may be known about detailed requirements, but gradually decreases as the project progresses.
