Systems Approach to Project Management

A systems view of a project makes the project execution more agile, efficient, and effective. A system is a collection of interrelated elements working together synergistically to achieve a set of objectives. Any project is, in actuality, a collection of interrelated activities, people, tools, resources, processes, and other assets brought together in pursuit of a common goal. The goal may be in terms of generating a physical product, providing a service, or achieving a specific result. This makes it possible to view any project as a system that is amenable to all the classical and modern concepts of systems management.
