Chapter 6. Intermediate Reporting Techniques
At this point in the book, you should feel fairly comfortable using BIDS and creating simple reports. For example, you should know what BIDS is, how to use it to create a new Reporting Project, and how to create a new report using the report wizard. You should have an understanding of basic best practices, like using shared data sources for your report projects and keeping the data manipulation in the data layer. In a pinch, you should be able to prepare and present a simple report to meet your business needs.
You have merely scratched the surface of what you can do with Reporting Services. In this chapter, you will see how to build a more powerful report completely from scratch. You will also see how to create a report that links to another report, passing required parameters from one report to the second. You will even get a glimpse of accessing web service data. More specifically, you will be able to access SharePoint list data in your reports. It's time to step up to the next level.
