Since the third edition, the range of options available for the beginning filmmaker has multiplied tenfold. High definition (HD) has integrated itself firmly into production, distribution, and exhibition. A camera has been developed that is essentially a lens mounted on a computer (The RED). Professional postproduction software once linked to an editing system that filled a room can now be loaded onto a laptop. Essentially, anyone with a digital camera and a laptop is able to create a film that has the look and feel of a professional product.
