It is unlikely many of the great thinkers throughout history would contemplate making an equally grandiose pronouncement.1 Yet, while acknowledging that “moving the earth” is hyperbole, the exaggeration can be well understood given the power Archimedes was readying to demonstrate more than 20 centuries ago.
