Casting an independent film is hard, unless you’ve written your script for a set of specific actors you have guaranteed access to. More often you’ll have to reach out past your friends for at least some of the roles. But even if you skip the traditional casting process altogether – if you’re just going to offer the roles to specific people – you’re still better off if you can do some prep work at this stage. You will come out with a better understanding of the characters and the story.
