As Data Governance matures in the organization, stakeholders will realize the benefits of the program. If we go back to the common challenges outlined in the “Introduction,” such benefits might include the following (Table 14.1):

  • Access to the name of the individual who can help when there are questions about data
Reporting/Analytics
  • Relevant context to data available in reports or datasets
  • Common tools that are appropriate for different users
Data Architecture
  • Consistency of column names across tables
  • Access to a data model
Reliance on Individual Knowledge
  • Understanding where to find information on common processes
  • Removing the need to call an individual because they have always been willing to help
