RESULTS YOU CAN EXPECT WITHOUT A ROADMAP
Successful Data Governance programs have a common denominator, and that is people take the time to define activities and design the organizational structure that supports clear objectives. If you do not plan how to implement the organizational framework, you may end up with a program that is disorganized. Programs that start disorganized fall apart because the people get confused about what they are supposed to do and when they are supposed to do it. Programs that do not have a plan also do not have a way to measure or communicate. Those programs also fall apart because if it was not important enough to write activities down on a timeline, people will not think it important enough to participate, so they will focus on their other daily priorities.
FIRST STEP IN DEFINING A ROADMAP: IMPLEMENTING YOUR FRAMEWORK
You have defined objectives. You have defined guiding principles. You have defined an organizational framework that aligns to your culture and can support your objectives. You have defined operating procedures. Now you need to think about how to implement the framework. In other words, the order in which you will establish the different groups. Figure 12.1 shows our organizational structure for reference.
