Chapter 7. Publishing Your Plugin
Overview
There are hundreds of public plugins and other add-ons available for JIRA and the other Atlassian tools, all discoverable through the Atlassian Marketplace website at https://marketplace.atlassian.com. This site was formerly known as “p.a.c.” or “PAC” for “plugins.atlassian.com”. This is the place to search for new plugins to use in your JIRA, examples to learn from, and where the information about each plugin is published. This chapter describes the Marketplace and its sister sites SPAC and bitbucket. It also covers the details of upgrading a plugin, both building it and uploading it to the Marketplace The Atlassian developer documentation for the Marketplace can be found at https://developer.atlassian.com/display/MARKET/Atlassian+Marketplace.
Atlassian Marketplace
The Atlassian Marketplace is where JIRA’s Universal Plugin Manager (UPM) goes to search for plugins. The compatibility information about each plugin at the Marketplace is used to decide which plugins can be installed in a particular version of JIRA. Maintaining the compatibility information for a plugin is important, as plugins can drop out of use fairly quickly if not marked as being compatible with the latest JIRA version.
What the Marketplace offers for each plugin is:
A top-level summary of the plugin and a summary of each version of the plugin
The all-important JIRA version compatibility information
Links for downloading the plugin package
Links to source code, documentation, and ...
