Conversion between 2D and 3D

It is very common during the process of 3D modeling to break down the creation process into drawing 2D shapes (representing cross-sections or bases), then extruding or revolving to create the 3D object. Another possible scenario is to have an entire 2D drawing that needs to be converted to a 3D model.
