How does the mentor build a personal inventory of business wealth and acumen to pass along to mentees? Certainly, by years of experience which morphs into wisdom. This explains why so many volunteer mentors are retired businesspeople with the knowledge base and time availability to get involved.
But there are many other opportunities to advance and fine-tune your mentoring skills and techniques.
Role Models—Find other mentors whose style is compatible with yours, and shadow them. Mentor with them. Learn from their delivery and ability to gain the trust and confidence of their mentees and, consequently, deliver results. Role modeling is my highest recommended technique.
