4.0. Extraction Steam System
Extraction steam, also known as bleed steam, is the system for which the regeneration cycle has been made possible. To avoid thermal shock condensate, FW is preheated by extraction steam before admission to the boiler.
4.1. Objective and Function of the System
Out of the total steam admitted to the turbine, a major part is used to do the mechanical work in the turbine, whereas another part is used to preheat condensate and FW. Generally the extraction lines are numbered from low to high pressure (e.g., first three extraction lines from the LPT are numbered as I, II, and III, to heat up LP Heaters 1, 2, and 3, respectively).
