This book centres on the negotiation of gender norms through gender mainstreaming initiatives in the post-tsunami reconstruction in Aceh, Indonesia. It is the result of years of engagement with questions of gendered effects of political violence and armed conflict in Aceh, but also of the international reconstruction aid that entered Aceh in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean earthquakes and the tsunami in December 2004.
