Deming-Shewhart Cycle

The American statistician William Edwards Deming, along with Andrew Walter Shewhart, invented PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act). It’s an iterative problem-solving process that can be used to improve other processes, and it is based on the scientific method Hypothesis-Experiment-Evaluation, which represents Plan-Do-Check-Act.

  • Plan: You define your goals and the processes you need to deliver the expected results.

  • Do: You implement the new process.

  • Check: You measure the new process and compare the results to the expected outcome in order to find discrepancies.
