John Langdon Down coined the phrase idiot savant, which is French for “knowing idiot,” in the 19th century. He studied people with low IQs but exceptional abilities in remembering details.[10] Here are a few examples:

  • Orlando was an ordinary guy until the age of 10 when he was hit by a baseball on the left side of his head. Since then, he can remember the weather conditions for each and every day that has passed.

  • Kim couldn’t walk until the age of four. But he can now recall the complete text of more than 9,000 books.

  • Daniel could recite π from memory to more than 22,000 digits.[11]
