Most of the qualities that make for an effective performance by an actor in a full production apply to Play Readings. But Readings require actors to adapt their approaches to accommodate limited rehearsal periods. Some actors do this effortlessly. For others, the experience is frustrating. Given the prominence of Play Readings in contemporary theatre, actors who wish to be involved with new plays need to either embrace the challenges or learn to work effectively within them. For emerging actors, developing the skills to perform in a Play Reading is imperative.
