Since version 2.0, Photoshop has had layers, making things much more interesting!
The flexibility you can have by using layers makes it possible for you to separate and work independently on different parts of an image (even though it still appears to be one whole image), which is very convenient. And layers are one of the main features that allow you to perform nondestructive editing to images.
Nondestructive editing means making changes to your images that you can easily undo at any time if you change your mind. And who doesn't want to be able to change his mind at one time or another?
