Chapter 3. Manipulating Real-world Data
In the previous chapter, you started working with the graphical designer Spoon. However, all the examples were based on dummy data. In this chapter, you will start creating transformations to explore data from the real world.
Data is everywhere; in particular, you will find data in files. Product lists, logs, survey results, and statistical information are just a few examples of the different kind of information usually stored in files. In this chapter, you will:
- Create transformations to get data from different kinds of files
- Learn how to send data from Kettle to plain files
You will also get the chance to learn more basic features of PDI, for example, working with variables.
