Franz Marc was a German expressionist artist who began his relatively short career as a painter after visiting Paris, where he befriended two important artists, Wassily Kandinsky and August Macke. Together, Franz Marc and his colleagues formed an influential art group called The Blue Rider. They used color as the basis for their ideas to form a kind of spiritual symbolism in their work.
