Time Code—The AATONCODE System
The AATONCODE time code system, developed by AATON, the French camera manufacturer, is a means of encoding every frame of film with the SMPTE Time Code in a manner that can be read both by a computer and a human being.
The computer readable information may be used by a telecine machine fitted with an AATON TIME CODE READER or by an appropriately equipped film editing table to automatically synchronize picture to sound.
The secret of the AATONCODE time code marking on film lies in the method of exposing a matrix of 7 × 13 dots along the edge of the film to register both the time code and to create the normally readable alphanumeric characters.
